Case Studies - Performance Management System

Health care sector

The brief from the organization was to strengthen their current PMS system in terms of the process, implementation rigor and implementation communication. PCI has partnered with the organization in looking at the current pain points and running KRA workshops for each of the business/functional heads and their direct reports. The managers were thereafter trained to do a roll out of the KRA’s, with review from PCI. In addition, training sessions were held for all the people managers to conduct PMS review discussions and do feedback coaching successfully.

Hospitality sector

The luxury hotel chain is a part of large Indian conglomerate. As the chain was expanding, they wanted to move from a trait-based assessment to goal-based performance management. The entire Performance Management system was re- designed and participative goal-deployment workshops were facilitated for all managers. The design looked at understanding the JD’s and KRA’s for each role and then doing a cascade for each function and also looking at the cross functional linkages. Implementation support was provided for the first two cycles of the new system.

Financial sector

The 6-year old bank had very quickly since their inception grown very large in terms of asset value. However, the board of the company wanted to shift from a growth based strategy to a Profitable growth strategy and hence were looking at revamping the Performance Management System. PCI worked with the bank in terms of helping them articulate their strategic intent and therefore translating that into key Qualitative and Quantitative measures across all functions. Subsequently, the KRA’s for all functions were changed to the extent of almost 60% of the original PMS system, which existed. The results of the PMS system ensured that the bank started making profits in its retail business by Q3, after the new PMS system was implemented.
